Wine Review : Tohu Single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, 2016.

This, is an absolutely smashing bottle of wine! Completely and utterly delicious.

Don’t listen to the Sav Blanc haters! – there are great wines of every varietal out there. This is one of them.

This impeccable wine from New Zealand has a plethora of fruity notes on the nose & some flowers and herbs too. I don’t know if I can put into words the the immense tropical fruit bowl that is thrown at your face each time you go in for a glorious sniff.

Tastes just like it smells as well. Intense, punchy, medium acidity, great mouth feel – almost creamy with some hints of vanilla and brioche.

Normally you’d expect a wine with all these flavours and balanced appeal to be a magical blend of multiple blocks and areas, but in fact the Tohu Sauvignon Blanc is made from a single vineyard  in Marlborough, NZ. Although, I understand they do blend wine from previous years. Still to think that all of that flavour is an expression of one grape, from one area is amazing.

According to their website;

“Tohu Wines is the world’s first and most recognised Māori owned wine company. Since 1998, Tohu has focused on producing estate grown, single vineyard wines from New Zealand’s premier grape growing regions.”

Sadly this wine is not readily available in the Netherlands unless you have access to stores such as Sligro, where we picked it up for around €12 which is an absolute steal. In fact, I need to go and pick up a few cases.
